Some days

Some days you go out to your car, in an attempt to be on time to class, and you discover that someone took a screwdriver (or some other harmful device) to your locks and you realize you can't get in your car.
You think about how rude that is.

Then you go inside and call your husband.  He doesn't answer.

You call your mom.  She doesn't answer.

You call your dad who spends his life in meetings and usually can't answer but he does!  And poor dad has to listen to you hold back your tears whilst you talk about feeling violated and what you're going to do since you're stranded at home and missing your class that you lose a half a letter grade on every time you miss it.  (it was probably a big old blessing that he was the one to answer the phone considering that he has an incredible habit of speaking peace to my soul)

Bless that sweet dad.

Then you call the Honda Dealership and they don't have time for you until tomorrow.

Then you think you can crawl through the trunk but you remember that you're pregnant and probably don't fit.  You were right.

Then sweet husband races home from the station to crawl through the trunk for you.
He's so nice.

And then you eat a leftover Reese's peanut butter Egg and everything is ok again
(except that you still don't have locks on your car...minor detail)

Some days are just like that.
That would be today.

When You're Married to a News Anchor

When you're married to a news anchor there are lots of things to learn.

When you're married to a news anchor you just may find  yourself nervous watching the news.

When you're married to a news anchor you might borrow his blush when yours runs out.
When you're married to a news anchor you may begin feeling like you are drowning in ties.
When you're married to a news anchor you you will always have a pile of ironing to be finished.
When you're married to a news anchor, and he does the late news, he might have a really hard time falling asleep before 2 or 3 in the morning.
If you're married to a news anchor there is always some kind of news, in some kind of language, on some (or several) kind of device playing throughout the house.  (Which probably accounts for Anderson Cooper showing up in my dreams most nights.)
When you're married to a news anchor you dress your husband every single day and when you watch the news you learn what adventurous outfits were not a very good idea.

When you're married to a news anchor strangers feel like they know him, so they hug him very often.

When you're married to a news anchor you go to Bare Escentuals to have your skin matched to your makeup...both of you.
When you're married to a news anchor there are always many makeup brushes to be washed, hair to be kept, and make up remover to buy.
But when you're married to a news anchor you get to watch your cute man on television every single day.
And when you're married to a news anchor you get to be so proud of him as he impacts the world around him.

And when you're married to a news anchor you feel like a celebrity around town because people give you free things (granted, only if the news anchor is present).

And when you're married to a news anchor you get to live vicariously through him because you just might have studied Broadcast Journalism before they told you your voice was too high pitched and your hair was too big to be a news anchor but you still, secretly really love it.

And when you're married to a news anchor you're never quite sure if your husband has been in the line of fire during the day, and he usually doesn't tell you so you don't freak out.

So, I must say, being married to a news anchor is pretty great.

I wouldn't want be married to anything else.

Unpredictable

It's ok, Mother Nature.  I forgot about April Fool's Day too.
Even though I forgot about it, I won't be celebrating it on an unsuspecting day.
You shouldn't either.

Complain as I might, I always loved the unpredictability of living in Utah and now New Mexico.  This morning as I woke up to run to class, I thought to myself "Ooh!  I get to pull out a cold weather outfit and boots!"
(It's amazing what gets me excited)

Upon returning home from quite the blizzard, I found my husband still in bed...reading.  It seemed only fitting to put on my sleepy socks and crawl back into bed snuggled next to my love.
I wish moments like that would never end.

We like to move it, move it.

I wish there was a scratch and sniff widget for the bloggy.  If there was, I would share with you all the horrible fragrance we've been smelling for the past two months.  A quick whiff would help you to understand why we just completed our THIRD move in SIX months.

It goes like this:
We walk into our new apartment and take a deep breath.  Is that cigarette smoke or carpet cleaner?  We talked ourselves into believing it was just carpet cleaner especially since the girls who sold us our lease ASSURED the cranky pregnant lady that there was no one around who smoked and that it would not be a problem at all despite the fact that we were living in a "smoking building".

Fast forward the next two months of spending loads of money on air fresheners, purifiers, humidifiers, odor eaters, etc.  My faith in those fantastic febreeze commercials is diminished.  The Bed Bath and Beyond odor eaters that are GUARANTEED don't work either and the water in my humidifier is black.  Ash has started accumulating on the walls and the Mister and Lady have had permanent sore throats for two months.

We share vents with our upstairs neighbors.
We love them.
They smoke like trains.
I'm talking, NON STOP all day long.
I'm paying HOW MUCH to develop lung cancer?!?
Not happy.

Cranky pregnant lady waddles over to the leasing office to ask when we can move into a non-smoking building.  The girls tell prego that it will be a $150 transfer fee.  Prego reminds them that they assured her upon move in that this would not be an issue.  Prego leaves upset and the manager calls minutes later telling her that the fee will be waived and we can move on March 1st.

Happy Prego.

Last weekend was the big move...directly across the courtyard.  Easiest move in the history of the world.  Still annoying, but no U-Haul's or boxes involved.

This girl is staying RIGHT HERE for as long as she can manage because moving again sounds like the worst idea in the world.

This whole experience reminded me of a poster my uncles used to have hanging in the music store.  It looked like this:
Thank you very much but the Mister, Lady, and Little Lady will not be contracting lung cancer any time soon.  To all of you who like lung cancer and like to give it to yourself I say "good on ya".

Cheers.

Valencia County Fair

You know you live in the lovely dessert when there can be an outdoor county fair in February.
Sweet husband had to go and stand at the Univision tent and sign autographs for his silly "fans".  It was so funny to watch total strangers walk up to him, as if they're best friends, and give him big hugs.  It's so cute.

It was a BEAUTIFUL day in Belen!
I had never seen funnel cakes be made before.  The girl that owns the tent kept asking me if I was going to order one.  Boy....did I want to!
Once you paid to get in, all the food was FREE!  (Except OF COURSE the funnel cakes)  The lines were very, very long and the two times we made it to the front of the lines, they ran out of food.  Blast!
Watching the pork being prepared was a very interesting and very disturbing experience.  Eek.

Javi had been asked to judge the "specialty dishes" cooking competition.  There were some gorgeous dishes.  He was in heaven.  He loved everything he ate.  Naturally, he scored everyone really highly.  I'm not sure he was the best choice for a food judge considering that he LOVES everything he eats.  He's a good eater.

While daddy ate loads of food, baby and I drank a large amount of amazing lemonade and laughed at daddy's love of everything edible.
 Until next year, Valencia County!

And they are living Happily Ever After

Once Upon a Time (6 months ago to be exact) I completed the greatest achievement of my life thus far. I married my perfect match. I think this is a huge accomplishment considering how hard it is to find your perfect match but I did it. Actually, I didn't do it, my friend Jamie James found him for me. I will be forever indebted to Mr. James.

Mister is my perfect match in heaps of ways. Here are just a few to help us celebrate this six month milestone.
  • He is positive about everything. I always thought that I was really optimistic...I've got nothin' on his positivity.
  • Mister fits right in to my family's randomness and fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants mentality. You see, my brothers and I grew up being thrown into wild situations at the last minute, often unprepared. Mister is a PRO at this. Doesn't phase him one single bit.
  • Mister has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. I love it when he sings in my ear or really loudly in the shower.
  • Mister has a wide open mind. He is far more liberal than conservative which makes him my favorite. I love being married to someone whom I can agree with politically.
  • Mister slow dances with me in the kitchen while I'm making dinner. Nothing can break up the monotony of cooking dinner than a little slow dance here and there.
  • Mister and I love the news. We love to listen to talk radio during the day on our commutes and then talk about it over dinner at night. I really appreciate his obsession with being informed.
  • Mister and I are both performers. We do really different kinds of performing which is perfect, but it is beyond wonderful to share that mindset with mi amor.
  • When I come home with a shopping bag full of throw pillows, clothes, fabric, whatever, he never, ever, ever asks how much I spent or why I bought something. I really love not having to justify my purchases :)
I've never understood this trend. I made my sister in law take a "trendy" picture of us during family pictures. Nothing says "I love you" like standing really far apart and not smiling.
  • Mister didn't even get one bit mad when I put his ipod through the washing machine on Tuesday. Now that's love.
  • I love that he will eat everything. He is the best that way. No picky-ness in this house.
  • I think he is REALLY hot. There I said it.
  • Mister loves my really big, frizzy, occasionally dread-lock-ish hair. Not many guys go for the curly hair which was one of the ways I knew he was the one. As far as I'm concerned, if a man doesn't love you how you were made, he is more than wrong for you.
Exhibit A: really large AND frizzy hair.
  • Mister always smells good. Yum.
  • Mister is the best traveling companion I could ever want. We tend to find ourselves on adventures in unfamiliar places and I love it. He isn't afraid to try new things and he makes friends everywhere he goes...whether we speak the same languages or not.
  • The Mister has made my life so happy. I didn't know that life could get any better until I met him. He has filled voids that I never knew existed. He has pulled things out of me that I didn't know I was capable of. He has caused me to love deeper than I ever knew possible. He has made me feel more beautiful than I ever have before. He is my best friend.
The past six months have been better than I could have imagined...easy as pie...a piece of cake...easy as falling off a log...you get it. So I'd like to propose a toast to the next
six months
six years
&
six decades.
They are gonna be good.

Thank you, Mister Misiego, for making me the happiest girl in the world (and for having a cool last name).

All's I'm sayin' is I'm sure glad we've got forever.
BTW: I want to get married again. That was the best weekend of my life!! Maybe for our one year anniversary we'll have a reenactment. You're all invited. You don't have to bring a present just come and dance the night away. I, for one, will be found on the dance floor all night long. I will not be found standing in a line shaking hands...but thanks for asking.
